So Far, Pretty Awesome.

I am definitely enjoying the Pentax. It's fairly versatile, and has an insane iso range. Lots of little features making adjusting for different environments easy as well. The image stabilization is a plus too, but cuts out during longer exposures, which is to be expected anyway. The only gripe I have is the time it takes to process the image after a long bulb exposure, but I am also shooting as large as I can without going raw. Look below for a few examples of my first day out shooting with it. The night shots are especially nice, with some surprisingly rich color showing up in the longer exposures due to the sky saturating for almost a whole minute on f4.5 and 400iso.

Balancing Act

Using a strobe Wendy lit herself as she walked the track, which is why you can only see her legs. Makes for a creepy sort of "Silent Hill" effect.

Tracking

Yet another long exposure at night, just a still shot of the train tracks. Its odd how everything gets lighted during a long exposure. The sky goes purplish, the trees actually look green, but the light itself doesnt really look like its coming from any one place, maybe because there really isn't a dedicated light source.

Sky Rushing By

Another long night exposure, making for a weird cell shaded effect with the sky moving and the trees staying still.

I Sense Seagulls

This seagull kept standing up and sitting down, effectively blocking the sensor and making the light go on and off every few seconds.

Don't Touch The Tracks

Exposing at night for a good 40 seconds can get you some cool results, especially when you have friends with led lights handy. The sky exposed a weird orange color, most likely from the city lights just past the tracks.

That Won't Save You

Just got a new DSLR. Time to break her in.

Picked up a Pentax K-X. Solid little DSLR. Slapped a filter on it and went shooting right out of the box to see how she did. Really easy to figure out where everything is and how to change/customize settings.
Picture is of a tiny pond near my house, with easily the worst, oldest, most decrepit life preserver I have ever seen.

Neither here nor there

Dinosaurs emerge from the Earth to take 'residence' in a city left behind by the dying human populace? Improbable and outlandish you say? I do believe that's the point. Even though I'm not even close to finished working on my new book, I just can't help but take a small side quest and do some strictly "for fun" illustrations since those are the most fulfilling. Scans of sketches soon to come!
